Nonprofits need great leaders!

Dear Nonprofit Professional,

The path to leadership within the nonprofit often comes without a formal roadmap. While “baptism by fire” forces the nonprofit leader to learn quickly it can cause unnecessary stress and lead to bad choices. Poor leadership leads to defections of your best supporters, low morale and stagnation.

A better alternative...

With the proper guidance, nonprofit leaders at every level within the organization can learn to be passionate and effective.

Brian NorrisMy name is Brian Norris. My mission is to develop great nonprofit leaders. That's why I provide nonprofit leaders the ongoing support they need to succeed in their organization.

With 18 years of experience working with managers and executives in the business community to promote, lead and motivate their employees I now offer the professional development, leadership training and personal development tools often absent from nonprofit organizations.

I teach nonprofit leaders to adopt the helpful approaches of their for-profit counterparts.

These skill sets include creating milestones, benchmarks and recognizable performance standards, practical decision making, creative problem solving, rewarding and recognizing others, communication skills, building teams, and providing meaningful feedback, coaching and mentoring.

Prepared to lead

I work with nonprofit leaders — new and seasoned alike — to feel more confident about their leadership role and the decisions they make. I teach them how to solve their problems and to be prepared for the inevitable changes that their organization will face.

Through a blend of consulting, coaching, speaking and training we tackle the key challenges that nonprofit managers and executives face in their professional and personal lives. This enables my clients to merge their passion, purpose, and paycheck.

Communicate with passion.

As you know, most people who go to work or volunteer for a nonprofit are drawn to a strong message and sense of purpose. Whether its curing a disease, reducing crime, supporting a political cause, defending a right, raising awareness or saving humanity, I help nonprofit leaders to successfully articulate a strong vision for their organization.

Passionate leaders who communicate that purpose at every level can mitigate the challenges caused by lower wages and burnout. Their words and subsequent actions can bring diverse people together and create massive change that literally changes the world.

Get unstuck

I help nonprofits from getting too stuck in “the way we've always done it” and to consider new ways to grow and respond to the myriad challenges and issues of the day.

Clients get the support they need to escape Founders' Syndrome. In turn, a new generation of leaders can learn to move the organization forward without abandoning the legacy and vibrant traditions of the past.

I help nonprofits to maximize the opportunity for internal advancement.

I also assist with change management and succession planning by helping nonprofits to define the necessary steps current members and staff must take to qualify for leadership positions.

By providing these options to your management team you reduce turnover and increase your odds of succeeding. When more people stay with your organization everyone benefits. The continuity, connections and cohesiveness that proliferates with career longevity is invaluable.

WHAT ARE MY METHODS?

As mentioned earlier, I work with nonprofit managers and executives through one-on-one coaching, group coaching, on-site workshops, train-the-trainer programs, seminars, keynotes, retreats, and consulting.

Specific goals that I help clients to reach...

1. Motivate and inspire managers and executives to
• find meaning in their work
• escape cynicism, avoid becoming jaded and stay positive about your mission
• keep moving toward goals
• become flexible in how they solve problems
• constantly improve how they interact with their employees, volunteers, partners and donors

2. Motivate and inspire their front-line employees and volunteers to
• find meaning in their activities
• work more autonomously or in teams
• treat coworkers with respect
• value their constituency

3. Teach executives and managers to
• work with others
• adapt to other people's styles and quirks quickly
• communicate their thoughts, ideas and platforms powerfully through the written and spoken word
• deal with whiners and chronically negative people
• solve problems and identify new solutions in less time
• get better at planning, working their plans and managing their systems
• make the most of their limited time and focus on their true priorities
• coach, mentor and counsel their employees and volunteers
• gain the respect and trust of their employees, coworkers and donors, members and volunteers
• give direction without over managing, coddling or sabotaging
• build and sustain high functioning teams

4. Help organizations to build their own world-class training programs. I show managers, HR staff, team leads, and staff members expected to train volunteers and new employees how to
• Become great trainers, training managers and role models
• Create, deliver and manage successful training programs from scratch
• Take existing materials and use them to build a successful training program
• Train, present and communicate clearly, passionately and succinctly
