They all laughed when they introduced Steve to deliver the keynote address...
Until he walked on stage and delivered a presentation that changed their lives -- forever.
Only months earlier, this man, an otherwise successful business owner, had the reputation for putting audiences to sleep. When Steve walked into a room, people would literally run in the other direction just to avoid hearing his rambling, lifeless voice. In fact, over the years, he had developed a nick-name among his colleagues and competitors "Steve the Snooze."
He became the joke of every social or networking event he attended. Many of Steve's closest friends told me later that he was actually known to put people to sleep while they were still standing!
Because of his terrible communication skills, he had lost a lot of business to competitors. His competitors, of course, couldn't be happier. Every time Steve spoke, or showed up at a function in his old suits, they'd visualize the new clients that Steve was losing and they were gaining.
In his personal life, Steve could never get halfway through a conversation without a women losing all interest. She would suddenly have to excuse herself to powder her nose or make a phone call. Then she'd jolt for the nearest exit or quickly strike up another conversation with someone else for the rest of the night.
Steve found himself increasingly alone and deeply depressed.
So what made this night different?
Steve had tried to deliver speeches before, only to fail miserably. The association tapped Steve to deliver the keynote because they expected him to fail and give everyone a good laugh in the process.
Why, then, did Steve make such a powerful impression on that audience of 500 people? Steve had a secret weapon.
He hired me!
Steven called me one summer afternoon after reading a feature article about my company in the newspaper. The article talked about how I could help anyone to look, speak and feel like a winner.
Out of curiosity, Steve called my office and asked if I could help him.
Honestly, Steve was so awful, that I didn't know if even I would be able to transform Steve into a master communicator.
After a series of questions, I decided that we could help Steve with his problem. we told Steve what his investment would be and he quickly agreed. We set up an appointment over the phone and two days later, we got to work.
First, I showed Steve how to connect with people on a soul-to-soul level and to share his passion for life through his words, his appearance and his actions.
I identified the "lightning", those moments that had made a profound impact in Steve's life and changed him, his perception and his business. Second, I developed a thirty-second introduction that would whet the appetite of any buyer in the room. Steve learned it cold.
On cue, he could introduce himself, describe his business and the benefits he delivered that left his competitors in the dark. With a little modification he could use the same intro to capture the interest of any women in the room
Next, I remodeled his speech patterns and focused on breaking up his monotone voice with a whole tool chest of techniques that Steve could rely on wherever he went, in any situation.
Finally, I helped Steve craft a keynote speech that would forever vanquish the legend of "Steve the Snooze". I focused on what he would have to memorize and what parts he could deliver "off the cuff."
In just two-week, Steve went from snooze to stupendous. From boring to brilliant. From pale to passionate.
And on that night, with that one speech, Steven changed his life and his fortunes forever. His confidence soared.
People wanted to do business with Steve. He attracted women like crazy. Meanwhile, his competitors were scratching their heads in disbelief while Steve ultimately laughed himself all the way to the bank.
So what about you? Are you ready to look, speak and feel like a winner?
